About ExactKB

ExactKB is a set of free tools for one job: getting a photo, signature, image or PDF under the size limit an online form asks for. It was built because that small step, shrinking a file to 20KB or 200KB, is where a lot of applications get stuck.

How the tools work

Every tool runs inside your browser. When you choose a file, your own phone or computer opens it, changes it and saves the result. The file is never sent to a server, so there is nothing for us to store, read or lose. Once a page has loaded, the tools keep working on a slow connection.

For pictures, the tool searches for the highest JPG quality that fits under your limit and only reduces the pixel size when quality alone is not enough. For PDFs, each page is redrawn as an image and compressed until the whole file fits.

What the tools cannot do

A compressed PDF no longer has selectable text, because its pages become images. Very small limits on large, detailed pictures lose sharpness. Password protected PDFs have to be unlocked first.

Who pays for it
